YEEP Somalia Represents Somalia at Global Youth, Peace and Security Dialogue in Almaty, Kazakhstan

YEEP Somalia proudly participated in the Global Strategic Dialogue on Youth, Peace and Security: From Normative Progress to Implementation Impact, held from 28–30 July 2026 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
YEEP Somalia was represented by Abdishakur Moalim Shiimaay, known as Shiimaay Yare, Vice Executive Director. He joined youth leaders, policymakers, UN representatives, civil society organizations, and development partners from around the world to discuss practical approaches to advancing the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agenda.
During the dialogue, Abdishakur shared Somalia’s ongoing efforts to develop its first Youth, Peace and Security National Action Plan (YPS NAP), highlighting its importance in strengthening meaningful youth participation in peacebuilding and national development. He also emphasized the value of an inclusive national YPS coalition bringing together youth-led organizations, government institutions, civil society, and development partners.
The dialogue provided an opportunity to learn from countries advancing YPS implementation and highlighted the importance of partnership, coordination, and youth leadership in building peaceful and resilient communities.
YEEP Somalia remains committed to supporting the localization and implementation of the YPS agenda in Somalia and ensuring young people have meaningful roles in peacebuilding and sustainable development.
We sincerely thank UNFPA for convening this important global platform, as well as the Government of Kazakhstan, facilitators, speakers, organizers, and all participants who contributed to the dialogue.
The discussions in Almaty have concluded, but the work continues. YEEP Somalia remains committed to turning YPS commitments into meaningful action in Somalia.
