Yesterday in Mogadishu, YEEP Somalia participated in an important dialogue organized by Brain Story Organization, in collaboration with UNDP Somalia and KOICA, under the theme โFrom Protection to Resilience: Responding to GBV, Mental Health, and Vulnerability to Violent Extremism.โ
Our Director, Hamdi Abdi Adow, joined the panel and shared YEEP Somaliaโs perspective on the links between protection, vulnerability, and violent extremism.
She particularly highlighted how experiences of violence, exclusion, lack of support, and other vulnerabilities can increase young peopleโs exposure to recruitment by violent extremist groups. She emphasized the importance of addressing these underlying vulnerabilities through prevention, mental health and psychosocial support, meaningful youth engagement, and stronger community-based protection and resilience.
The dialogue brought together civil society representatives and other stakeholders to discuss GBV, mental health, the protection of women and children, and practical ways to strengthen safer and more resilient communities.
YEEP Somalia appreciates the opportunity to contribute to this important conversation and remains committed to advancing youth-led peacebuilding, prevention, protection, and community resilience in Somalia.
