Somalia’s Youth, Peace and Security National Action Plan: A Milestone for Youth Participation

Somalia’s Youth, Peace and Security National Action Plan
Today, the Ministry of Youth and Sports convened the national validation workshop for Somalia’s Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) National Action Plan, bringing together government institutions, youth-led and women-led organizations, and other key stakeholders.
YEEP Somalia was pleased to contribute to this important process. Throughout the consultations and development of the Action Plan, we shared our perspectives, experiences, and recommendations to help ensure that the priorities and realities of Somali young people are reflected in the national YPS agenda.
Today’s validation was an important moment to review the draft, strengthen the proposed priorities, and ensure that the Action Plan provides a practical pathway for advancing youth participation, peacebuilding, conflict prevention, social cohesion, and sustainable development.
For us at YEEP Somalia, meaningful youth participation means more than simply having young people in the room. It means creating space for young people to contribute, lead, influence decisions, and take ownership of the processes that shape their future.
We are proud to have been part of this journey and look forward to supporting the implementation of the National Action Plan and strengthening the role of young people in building a more peaceful and inclusive Somalia.
