Abdishakur Represents YEEP Somalia at UNESCO Conference in Nairobi

Over the past few days, Abdishakur known as Shiimaay Yare had the privilege of attending the final conference of the Habitable Project in Nairobi, organized by UNESCO. The conference focused on climate migration, climate transition, and the critical role of youth in climate action. Abdishakur, representing YEEP Alumni Somalia, shared valuable insights on the intersection of youth, peacebuilding, and climate challenges in Somalia.
Notably, Abdishakur is the first winner from Somalia of the #Youth4HarmonyHack, a competition organized by YEEP Alumni Africa and its partners. His win not only highlights his individual achievements but also draws attention to the growing involvement of Somali youth in global climate and peacebuilding efforts.
At the conference, Abdishakur had the opportunity to engage with experts, researchers, and youth leaders from across Africa, including fellow winners of #Youth4HarmonyHack from Nigeria and Kenya. These exchanges deepened his understanding of the complexities of climate change, especially its link to displacement and migration, and strengthened his commitment to advocating for innovative solutions that empower youth in the fight against climate change. This experience reaffirmed the vital role of young people in shaping a more sustainable and peaceful future for Africa
